All three smartphones in Google’s Pixel 9 lineup might come with enhanced brightness levels, thanks to the Samsung-supplied M14 OLED screens.
The Google Pixel 9 series is set to launch on August 13, and the designs of the smartphones have already been shared on social media. Ahead of the official release, details about the displays of Google’s upcoming devices have reportedly been leaked. According to the claims, the phones may feature Samsung-made OLED displays utilizing “M14” organic material, which is expected to enhance brightness. Interestingly, the same display technology is also rumored to be used in the iPhone 16 Pro models.
Expected Display Specifications for Google Pixel 9
Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 lineup is rumored to include three models: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, with the latter being a new addition. A report from Android Authority suggests that all three devices could benefit from increased brightness levels due to the M14 OLED screens.
The Pixel 9 is said to offer full-screen HDR brightness of 1,800 nits, an upgrade from the Pixel 8’s 1,400 nits. Meanwhile, both the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL are expected to reach 2,050 nits of HDR brightness, representing an increase of approximately 400 nits compared to their predecessor. While these figures reflect HDR values, local peak brightness levels across the Pixel 9 series are anticipated to be even higher.
According to reports, the Google Pixel 9 Pro will be significantly smaller this time, featuring a 6.34-inch display compared to the Pixel 8 Pro’s 6.71-inch screen. This change is likely due to the upcoming introduction of the Pixel 9 Pro XL, a new model that is said to have a 6.73-inch 120Hz display. If these specifications are accurate, it would be the largest display on any non-foldable Pixel smartphone to date.
Alongside the Pixel 9 series, Google has announced the launch of its next-generation foldable smartphone, named the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This device will succeed the Pixel Fold, which was introduced at the I/O Developer Conference in 2023. The entire upcoming smartphone lineup from Google will be supported by Gemini, its large language model (LLM) that enables advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features.
