According to a recent report, OnePlus may soon enhance its truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones, the OnePlus Buds, with new AI-driven functionality. The update could allow users to activate an AI-powered call summarization feature directly through their earbuds. This feature was reportedly discovered during an APK teardown of the companion app for the device and is expected to facilitate quicker access to call summaries during phone calls.
**AI Call Summarization on OnePlus Buds**
The feature was identified by Android Authority and X (formerly Twitter) user @AssembleDebug in the APK teardown of the OnePlus Buds app version 14.8.2 for Android devices. The user interface for this potential new feature, possibly named ‘AI Call Assistant,’ seems to enable users to start or end call summarization by pressing the stem of the OnePlus Buds three times. However, this functionality may only be available on OnePlus smartphones that support the AI summary feature.
According to the report, AI call summarization might not be available if the smartphone is in super power saving mode, meditation mode, or children’s space. When enabled, users would be able to view important details about their conversations, such as time and location, even if their phone is out of reach.
OnePlus has been actively integrating AI into its devices recently. For instance, the OnePlus Nord 4 introduced various AI features like AI Eraser 2.0, AI Smart Cutout 2.0, and AI Clear Face, in addition to AI Toolbox features such as AI Speak, Recording Summary, and AI Link Boost. The AI call summarization feature is expected to be rolled out for the OnePlus Buds 3, the latest TWS earbuds launched in February. It remains uncertain if older models will receive this update. Since the feature was uncovered through an APK teardown, its inclusion in the final public version of the app is not guaranteed.
