Meta has confirmed that Meta Quest 3 will soon integrate with its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI. The chatbot will serve as the official AI assistant for the mixed-reality headset, responding to verbal inquiries similar to Meta’s social media apps. Meta AI on Quest will also have the ability to search the web for answers and provide computer vision-based responses regarding the user’s surroundings. Notably, Meta AI was previously introduced to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in April.
Meta AI Arrives on Quest 3
According to a recent blog post, Meta announced that Meta AI will be introduced to Quest 3 starting next month. Initially available in English for users in the US and Canada, this integration will be part of the Meta Horizon OS, enhancing the hands-free experience with the AI chatbot.
Meta Quest 3 will also gain Meta AI vision capabilities, leveraging the headset’s passthrough feature to observe and analyze the user’s environment, and subsequently answer related queries. For example, users can ask the AI to identify a flower or a famous landmark visible through the headset’s passthrough view.
Additionally, users can pose more complex questions, such as showing a t-shirt to the headset and asking for outfit recommendations. Meta AI vision will initially be rolled out in experimental mode next month, focusing on recognizing physical objects through passthrough, without the ability to detect virtual objects.
While Meta has specified Quest 3 for these features, there is potential for Quest Pro to also support them, given its passthrough capabilities. However, official confirmation from Meta is pending. Quest 2, while not receiving the vision feature, will still benefit from the Meta AI assistant. It’s noteworthy that Quest isn’t the first Meta wearable to integrate hands-free Meta AI, as the technology was previously added to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in select markets in April.
