Apple Focuses on Design Over Features: iPhone 17 Slim to Feature Single Rear Camera and A19 Chip

The iPhone 17 Slim is reported to have a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1,260×2,740 pixels and include a Dynamic Island feature.

Apple has yet to announce the iPhone 16 series, but rumors about next year’s iPhone lineup are already surfacing online. The anticipated iPhone 17 series is rumored to introduce a new ‘Slim’ model in place of the Plus variant. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently provided insights into its specifications and design, suggesting that Apple may prioritize a slim profile with a single rear camera. The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to be powered by a lower-end A19 chip.

Expected iPhone 17 Slim Specifications

Prominent supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared his expectations for the iPhone 17 Slim in a Medium post. He suggests that this ultra-slim model will prioritize a sleek design over advanced hardware features and will come with just a single wide-angle rear camera.

This single-lens approach would be atypical for Apple, which usually equips its standard and Plus models with dual cameras and Pro versions with triple cameras. While the exact capabilities of the iPhone 17 Slim’s camera are not yet clear, other models in the iPhone 17 series are anticipated to feature a 48-megapixel main camera.

Additionally, Kuo indicates that the iPhone 17 Slim will feature a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1,260×2,740 pixels and a Dynamic Island. It is expected to be powered by the A19 chip along with Apple’s proprietary 5G chip. In contrast, the high-end iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are anticipated to be equipped with A19 Pro chips.

The iPhone 17 Slim is likely to have a Titanium-aluminum alloy middle frame, though the Titanium content may be less than that used in the current Pro and Pro Max models. Other models in the iPhone 17 series are expected to have aluminum middle frames.

Why is Apple replacing the iPhone 17 Plus?

Kuo’s post supports speculation that Apple plans to phase out the iPhone 17 Plus due to poor sales, introducing the new iPhone 17 Slim as a replacement. Kuo explains, “The new ultra-slim model is not meant to replace the Plus. Instead, Apple is exploring new design trends beyond the current iPhone lineup.”

He points out that the Plus model represents only about 5 to 10 percent of total iPhone shipments, suggesting that the Plus is a less essential model.
