According to a recent report, Lenovo may launch a new tablet featuring a slidable display in 2025, with Samsung supplying the display technology. Samsung has already demonstrated advancements in display technology, including foldable, rollable, and slidable screens, at CES 2024. Following their introduction of foldable displays with the Lenovo X1 Fold, it’s speculated that Lenovo could use Samsung’s rollable display technology for this new tablet.
The tablet, as reported by Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) on X, might feature a 13-inch Samsung display that can extend up to 17 inches. Samsung’s CES 2024 showcase included a Flex Hybrid display, which combines slidable and rollable features and can be folded similarly to Samsung’s Fold phones, though it’s uncertain if this is the display planned for Lenovo’s tablet.
The report suggests that the tablet could be released in the second quarter of 2025, potentially making Lenovo the first company to offer consumer-oriented slidable tablets, as previous models have only been prototypes. Additionally, it’s expected that the tablet will function as both a tablet and a laptop and will support stylus functionality similar to Samsung’s devices. This news follows Samsung’s recent introduction of its new QD-LED display at Display Week 2024. The display features pixels made from semiconductor materials capable of displaying both backlight and a spectrum of RGB colors. Unlike OLED panels, it lacks organic materials, which could suggest that Samsung might have addressed the screen burn-in problems commonly associated with OLED displays.
