A report suggests that the iPad Pro (2024), featuring Ultra Retina XDR OLED, could see shipments exceeding 9 million units.

According to a report, the iPad Pro (2024) has a shipment goal exceeding nine million units. Despite market predictions of a downturn, Apple is optimistic about reaching this ambitious target, which significantly surpasses the 4-5 million units projected by experts. This high target underscores Apple’s confidence in the new iPad Pro, the most expensive model the company has ever produced.

The new iPad Pro models, unveiled at Apple’s Let Loose event earlier this month, feature an Ultra Retina XDR screen, also known as the Tandem OLED display. This is the first time Apple has included OLED screens in both the 11-inch and 13-inch variants. However, the complex manufacturing process for these displays has reportedly led to shipping delays.

A DigiTimes Asia report reveals that despite these delays, Apple’s suppliers—Samsung Display (SDC) and LG Display—are committed to meeting the shipment goals. Apple is sticking to its original target despite warnings of a market downturn and experts predicting a shipment volume of 4-5 million units for 2024. To boost production, SDC is expanding its capacity by adding a second A3 line for OLED displays. However, because the iPad Pro uses a hybrid two-stack OLED display, adjustments to the production process may be required, while LG Display is reportedly ready to handle the large volume.

SDC is expected to produce over four million units of the two-stack Tandem OLED screens, and LG Display is set to deliver five million units. Market research firm Omdia forecasts that global shipments of OLED tablets will exceed 12 million units this year, with the iPad Pro accounting for approximately 8.9 million units. This would mean that iPad Pro models will represent two-thirds of all OLED tablet shipments for the year, highlighting Apple’s dominant position in the market.
